Leaf Health & Deficiencies
Leaf Taco
Leaf taco is a stress symptom where cannabis leaves curl upward along the edges, forming a taco-like shape. It is typically caused by heat stress, excessive light intensity, or environmental imbalance.

What Leaf Taco Is
Leaf taco describes a condition in which the edges of cannabis leaves curl upward toward the center, creating a folded or cupped appearance. This response is most commonly triggered by environmental stress rather than nutrient deficiency.
Heat Stress as a Cause of Leaf Taco
Heat stress is one of the primary causes of leaf tacoing. When temperatures rise beyond the plant’s optimal range, leaves may curl upward as a protective response to reduce surface area exposed to intense light and heat. This helps limit water loss and prevent further stress.
Light Intensity and Leaf Curling
Excessive light intensity can also cause leaf taco symptoms. When grow lights are positioned too close or are too powerful for the plant’s current stage, leaves may curl in response to photoinhibition or light stress. Adjusting light height or intensity often resolves the issue.
The Role of Humidity and Transpiration
Low humidity combined with high temperature can increase transpiration rates and contribute to upward leaf curling. In such cases, improving environmental balance by adjusting airflow, humidity, and temperature helps stabilize plant response.
Other Factors That Can Contribute to Leaf Taco
Although environmental factors are the most common cause, nutrient imbalance or root stress may occasionally contribute to similar symptoms. Proper diagnosis requires evaluating temperature, light intensity, watering practices, and overall root zone health.
Why Leaf Taco Signals Environmental Imbalance
In cannabis cultivation, leaf taco is an early warning sign of environmental imbalance. Prompt adjustments to light and climate conditions help prevent prolonged stress and maintain healthy growth.
